As a teacher of English, I have been continuously developing the competency of leading and developing others. I am
currently teaching teenagers in Poland. They are mostly shy individuals, reluctant to speak out during the lessons. My approach towards them is very friendly and open. I show them that they are able to speak English with fluency only if they give themselves a good chance. I have been showing them this through our speaking practices, with an increasing student centred approach: I just give them the outlines of the activity and little explanation and then I lead them to do its hard bits, monitoring and coaching them in subject themes that they mostly enjoying writing, reading or speaking. After that, I give them constructive feedback on their activities or pieces of work, so that they can use my knowledge to build up and improve their own. It''s an amazing process where all parts learn from one another. Example: writing and speaking activity on
intercultural differences among countries. I can not know by myself all the aspects on this theme, but the student''s opinions and views are like pieces of a jigsaw that help to "build" the whole picture of the intercultural differences within a specific context.
