This book is to help you learn the basics of german. You don’t learn the theorie, you learn grammar, vocabulary, sentence construction by using every day dialogue. The book is divided in 24 lessons plus a short english-german dictionary at the end. Each lesson is in a different context (at the restaurant, in a taxi, at the hotel, at the market, etc.) Through the lessons you learn useful sentences like greetings and how to ask your way around. You learn numbers, food names, directions, how to use verb tenses, etc. By the end of the 24th lesson you have a good understanding of basic german needed to visit Germany and you will be well prepared to push your knowledge of the german language a step further.
What is really interesting about this book is that the sentences are not only written in german with their english translation, but there is also a phonetic sentence. They rewrite the german sentence using english phonetics so it is easy to learn how to prononce the german words. For example you would read :
diese zwei
DEE-zeh ts’vye (english phonetics)
these two
In conclusion I’d like to say that this is a great book that gave me a really good start for learning german.
