Sin City

Book Review by: Sententia

Original Author: Frank Miller
This story, that takes place in the middile of a dirty,
dark city, is a strange account of what human nature
might
be. Of all the numerous characters in this story, none
of
them are truly redeeming. Every character has a dark
and
dirty side that lurks there either just beneath the
surface,
or blatantly for all to see.
In a sense, this story is appealing for its theatrics,
and
its rather cynical look into the hearts of men and
women.
On the other hand, one must wonder about the manner in
which
every woman in this story is protrayed.
All of them, not just the hookers and prostitutes,
seem to
be blessed with perfectly beautiful bodies, and for some
odd
reason, a desire to plaunt them every chance they get.
Not
only are the strippers, whores, and questionable
waitresses
running around with barely a thread on their bodies, but
apparently psychiatrists as well aren't particulay fond
of
clothes, and no one it seems, is modest.
Certainly, sex drugs and violence has always been
appealing to the masses, but this, seems to be nothing
but.
One must wonder what the world is coming to when a book,
or
film such as these are thought to be cutting edge, and
at
the height of good taste and art.
I do not by any means, attempt to say that the picture
or
the book are worthless endeavors, for they are not.
They do
have entertainment value, the film is visually
engrossing,
and the inner dialogues of manner of the characters
quite
rich with beautiful descriptions and vivd metaphors.
However, I do find that the picture it paints of women
to be
rather demoralizing and truly pathetic. Were I to give
this
a rating between 1 and 5, 5 being the highest, I would
rate
it as a 5 in two categories. Artistic ability, and
masogeny. I cannot deny the talent of the writers, the
graphic artists, the directors etc. but to say that this
is
good based on its concepts would be a fallacy. An
offense
to intelligent, beautiful, sexy, and sex loving women
everywhere, absolutely.
