Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands

Book Review by: tscribe

Original Author: Jorge Amado
This abstract was translated from Dona Flor and her two husbands
A fascinating story, written by an author who is an expert in dramatic
plot and full of enthusiasm. Dona Flor, a young
woman who is a widow
after years of marriage to a Bohemian, decides to make a fresh start in
her life, also remembering from time to time the past years where
fidelity has been little existent. Her second husband, in contrast to
the first, is faithful and more methodical in manner. Surprisingly she
is overtaken by innumerable appearances of the deceased husband during
the hot nights of love with the second. She lives moments of anguish
for not being able to tell her current husband and suffers for not
being able to deal with the situation. Without being able to help
herself Dona Flor starts to have two husbands, but her morals do not
allow her to be comfortable with the situation. In the end she lives a
little promiscuously, satisfying both them and herself with them. Later,
after many unexpected turns, this drama draws to an end with the aid of
a friend. This is a romantic novel based on a stirring and captivating,
real story in which a beautiful lesson of morals is to be found and
which shows us just where love can take us.
