Decoding the Holy Grail Mystery by Brown’s Theory: Eliot and Brown, a comparison

For centuries, the Holy Grail has been a hot topic in English literature with many theories which tries to bring back the lost glory of the humanity. This novel The Da Vinci Code too definitely is one among them but in a totally different way. The novel as such is gripping and thrilling as the readers too awe at the mysteries unveiled by Sophie and Langdon. Though the dogmatic Christians may consider this as an anti-thesis to Christianity, in truth, Dan Brown just puts down some of his views of religion which many take it from the wrong side.
The story of Holy Grail reminds me of Eliot and The Waste Land. Eliot laments the loss of chastity and the degeneration of the humanity perhaps unwilling to retrieve the lost glory. Eliot feels that if Man wishes he could regain the lost glory. And Dan Brown says that the answer is within us, as religion is nothing but what we see and perceive. The novel ends with this optimistic note of Langdon that it’s what we see before us (the nature) is the real religion (which even Christ believed). Eliot expresses the power of nature in a different way by images and allegories from East and West (fire, water, earth, etc.) and with the synchronization of many languages, including Sanskrit, whereas Dan Brown expresses with symbols which is again related to nature (using theory of symbolism). His theory of religion seems to be apt for in the age of electronics and computers. Da Vinci coe is a perfect foil to Eliot’s Waste Land as there are no lamentations or social accusations. In short Da Vinci Code is the novel (or the bestseller) Waste Land.
