In a film that I watched on T.V a long time ago, there was a duet scene in which a girl head over heels in love with a boy, twits him for being a pusillanimous zero instead of a dashing hero, bereft of any practical ideas for putting an end to clandestine trysts and stolen kisses and winning over opposition to their becoming man and wife. I think it was wrong on her part to use the term zero to describe his helplessness. What little knowledge of numerology I have picked up shows that numbers have great power, in conjunction or opposition, to change the course of things. For instance, number 9 added to itself makes 18 which by further addition is reduced to 9. 9 x 9 which is 81 and is reduced to 9. People with number 9 as their main factor of influence are supposed to get along well together, sinking their differences and strengthening their similarities. Other numbers, say for instance, 1 plus 1 make 2 an entirely different number. You are certain to feel embarrassed at being told of a very obvious thing that you have not cared to notice. Any number, however large it is, opposed to zero becomes zero. Zeros on the right side of any number add to its value; zeros on the left side of any number diminish its value. The number, say, 123456 is number 1 repeated or reproduced so many times and number one continues to exist. When say, on a Saturday afternoon you find that you have lost your purse and you need money urgently to buy certain things, you do not think it is an erosion of self-respect to take it from the Cashier, giving him an I.O.U for it, if necessary. By philosophical extension of the analogy, I would call upon my brethren to enrich life and invest it with meaning and purpose by being zeros on the right side of the 1 of whom we are shadows. Electricity is a servant to us in so many ways. It gives us light, heat, aids cold storage and also artificial freeze, but if we don’t take certain precautions, it is certain to react lethally. Similarly, if our attitude to God is right, we are sure to see Him and His love manifest in our lives at all times.
