Are we inherently evil? Without representations of the
law e.g parents, police, teachers will we get out of control and
maybe destroy ourselves? Maybe we are not as innocent as we may claim to be or as we seem to be. Those are some of the issues that are addressed in Lord of the Flies. Lord of the Flies is a story about some
boys who are marooned on an
island after there plane is shot down.Left to themselves without parents or teachers there true nature shows up.Boys are supposed to be good, innocent. And some like Piggy, Simon and Ralph are good. This is seen in their immediate concern to be rescued and they really try to do the best for others.Others on the other hand go absolutely wild like Jack and Roger who are only interested in hunting.
hunting pigs. As time goes on they hunt there fellow boys and even end up killing Piggy. They do not want any semblence of law around them, like the shell which when blown called the boys to order. That is why when Piggy is killled and the shell broken any semblence of law is done away with. The boys set the island on fire in order to flush out Ralph and in so doing destroy their remaining source of food, which are the fruits and also the pigs that they have been hunting. Maybe that evil is within us. That is what Simon discovers in his wanderings on the island. When he finds the sow's head which has been impaled on a stick by Jack and his gang and gets into what seems to be a discussion with the
beast that the boys are always afraid of, Simon makes this discovery. But he is killed before he can reveal this to the others. When all seems lost then help comes in the form of the Captain. We saw your fire,' he says to Ralph. Therefore bad as we might be maybe all is not lost for us. There will always be help just in time to stop us from completely destroying ourselves and our surroundings.
