This well know reference book that contains thousands of achievements and unusual
phenomena of the natural world, was originally going to be published as a way of settling arguments in pubs across the UK and Ireland. In fact the name Guinness refers to the famous stout popular in the Republic of Ireland, and the company that produces it. Ironically from starting out as a free give-away, the book became one of the top selling books of all time. The original compilers were the McWhirter brothers, who were identical twins and produced the first edition in 1954, which was given away. Later editions were sold and eventually every year the book was updated to provide current
records and
world beating feats. The name has changed now and so has the format slightly, it has evolved over the years to match prevalent trends. Many new catagories have been added and some have been removed due to various reasons, mainly on account of ethics and anything liable to cause harm- who wants compete with the
largest number of condoms placed completely over one''s head- not that Guinness covered this one I think. I prefer bizarre things like, Chayi City in Taiwan held the record for the largest number of eggs stood vertically at one time. Go on take a look for yourself.
