A Child Called „It" is a remarkable story about a child whose life was an example of what should never happen to a vulnerable human being. Sad, it’s a true story told by an adult who once was a little boy so badly treated than it’s unbelievable. It started with a good times, when he was happy and his family was quite normal and then it all went wrong. When he was four his mother became more and more abusive torwards him. More than that – she became unpredictable. She even stopped calling him her son and that’s how David became „it". Being a slave in his own house, he did all the jobs, he was starved, he wasn’t allowed to sleep in bed, so he spent many sleepless nights in a basement on a floor. He wasn’t allowed to do anything without a permission, not even go to the toilet or sit down. He was forced to eat of a floor his own vomit. His throat was burnt with chemicals and not once he was locked in a bathroom with a mixture of poisonous mist to breathe in. That is certainly not everything. He was forced to lie down in icy cold water for hours and at age of eleven he was stabbed by his mother. There was plenty more ways of abuse happening in these house. A silent permission for all that to happen was given by David’s father, who was too weak to speak up and by his brothers, who didn’t really know what was going wrong. They only had a knowledge that their brother was a very bad boy and that he deserved all the punishent his mother could think of. Living in the place like these made them think that their mother’s behaviour was perfectly normal and they took advantage of David knowing that revealing his made up guilts would be an easy way to get their rewards. Eventually „The Boy" (at age of twelve) managed to escape from it all with great help of school nurse. The story is written in a language which was developed from child’s point of view, what makes it even more scary.
