A BED OF RED FLOWERS

Book Review by: uthara

Original Author: NELOFER PAZIRA

A biography and an autobigraphy in  itself, "A BED OF RED ROSES " reflects the life of an  Afghani
in the pre war period as well as in the post war period in Afghanistan. This book revolves around the life of the author and her relatives inter woven with the political as well as the social situations in Afghanistan. It truely portraits how a common man is affected by war. For the common man, his life, his family, his relatives and friends ,their wellbeing is more of concern. For him the political reasons doesnt matter much. He remains silent, wounded, bewildered not knowing what to do, when his dreams are shattered, when his shelter is demolished along with his near and dear ones by bombings. In this book. the author clearly depicts the mind of a child when she is unable to go to  school, even during the few days, when she manages to go to school, the fear which grips her.
Reading this book, it fills in us that sense of undying love for life. Even though the author and her family managed to escape to Pakistan and from there they moved to Canada, her mind is filled with the pain undergone by her close friend and other relatives who were unable to escape from the war torn Afghanistan. This pain brought her back to Afghanistan in her later days to make a movie , so that she can show the world, the true happenings in Afghanistan. While making the movie, she had to face a lot difficulties, which she bravely overcame.
With simple words and narration, it changes the outlook of the reader about that beautiful country and its dear ones.
