Humble Pie

Book Review by: JenJen1982

Original Author: Gordon Ramsay
Gordon Ramsay – Humble Pie
An autobiography from the renowned Michelin-starred chef, Gordon Ramsay. The book starts
from his childhood, moving through his life into his football years, moving out at 16, starting and progressing through his career in catering, the introduction of Chris Hutcheson, his marriage, having children and opening and expanding his chain of restaurants.
The book details the struggles Gordon had growing up as a child, an un-secure and unstable lifestyle, which would eventually lead his brother to heroine. However, to Gordon, it was his chance to please people and keep pushing forward within his career.
His love of football started at an early age, but injury forced him out of the game he loved so much. After arguments at home he made his decision to move out with his elder sister, gaining employment within the catering industry.
From there the story progresses to his determination and achievement in owning his own restaurant and the opportunity arises when an old boss asks if he wants to purchase the site of his old restaurant. Gordon receives help from Chris Hutcheson (his now father-in-law and CEO of Gordon Ramsay Holdings) and the pair have been working together since.
During the expansion and growth of Gordon Ramsay Holdings, he married and experienced difficulties with conception, and it was his first three children who were conceived through IVF.
What is described in this book is a journey of immense struggles, combined with the highs and lows of childhood through to adulthood. It captures those who are looking for inspiration to achieve what they may deem near enough impossible.
Easy enough to slip in and out of for a light or a quick read, however it is advisable to finish a chapter before putting the book down, as there is a different part of his life in each chapter.
