Bachendri Pal was born on 24th May 1954. She was the noisiest child of Kishan Singh Pal and Hansa Dei Negi. They lived in Garhwal. The job of the family was to weave the carpets. They faced financial problems. Bachendri’s second brother showed interest in mountaineering. She also started to follow his path. She is the only girl in her family who continued her studies after her ninth class. When her elder sister saw her interest in studies, she forced her father to send Bachendri to school for continuing her studies. Bachendri finished the B.Ed course, and she applied for a job. Since the salary and facility was low, she decided to learn mountaineering than to join for a job. She, soon, became a best candidate and became the Everest team captain. There were eleven members in her team. They started to Everest on 1984. She thus completed her expedition and became the first Indian lady to reach the Mount Everest. She also received many Indian awards like Padma Sri, Arjuna award etc.
