Selena's Secret: The Revealing Story Behind Her Tragic Death

Book Review by: MichelleB

Original Author: Maria Celeste Arraras
What a major disappointment!!! The author promises to reveal the story behind the tragic death of beloved Tejano / Latin
music superstar Selena Quintanilla Perez. Many questions were raised during the aftermath of the shooting. What was in Selena’s secret diary? Where did the ring that fell from Selena’s bloody fist really come from? Why was there a suitcase filled with Selena’s clothes in Room 158 of the Days Inn where Selena was shot? Spanish television journalist Maria Celeste Arraras promises to tell all!
To her credit, the author tries to present both sides of this explosive case from an objective point of view, instead of a sensational slant like tabloid media typically does. She reports trial court proceedings and exclusive interviews with key witnesses in exhaustive detail. She digs into Selena’s family background, painting a more controversial picture of Selena’s life than the movie starring actor Jennifer Lopez did. And her recorded conversations with the Selena’s convicted murderer, Yolanda Saldivar, are quite chilling. BUT - after 248 pages of storytelling, I just wanted to know one thing…
WHAT IS THE SECRET?!?!?!
In Chapter 12, Arraras finally admits that since Yolanda confided to her “off the record”, she would “respect her request not to reveal details” of the so-called secret. Excuse me? So why tease readers about a secret at all? Arraras claims that if you “read between the lines” of her book, you can probably figure the secret out yourself. I couldn’t. So if you are looking for any “shocking revelations” about Selena’s death (as I was), I’m afraid you won’t find it in this book.
About the Author
During the trial, Maria Celeste Arraras was the anchorwoman on the top-rated Spanish television magazine, Primer Impacto, seen on the Univision network.
