Book Review   by:MaryCassells     Original Author: Robert K. Massie

This book is a challenge to read. It was over five hundred pages long.I read about fifty pages per day. The book is about one of the most prominent Queens in European History. It is about Catherine the great - queen of Russia. The book discusses the queen's relationships with a variety of men. It discusses her children. It discusses the military conquests. It discusses the coronation. The coronation must have been beautiful It is amazing she was able to keep her throne.

The book is divided into seven parts. The sections were the following:
1. A German Princess
2. A Painful Marriage
3. Seduction, Motherhood and Confrontation
4. The Time has Come
5. Empress of Russia
6. Potemkin and Favoritism
7. "My name is Catherine the Second"

There are twenty pictures; all in color. The pictures are beautiful. There is a bibliography There are notes. There is an index. There are maps.

The queen seems to spend a lot of time traveling from one area to another. It seems to be romantic to ride in a sleigh in the middle of winter. It might have been very cold.

There are people who try to take away her throne. She remains victorious. However after her death there was no other woman who became Empress of Russia.
