Biography
Netaji Subhash Bose
(1897- 1945?)
Give me blood, i will give
you freedom
- are the famous words of Netaji when he was
underground to escape arrest of British Government. This inspired contemporary
revolutionary leaders of India, specially those who have no faith over non-violence
movement of Mahatma Gandhi. Though strong ideological difference with Mahatma
Gandhi,Jwaharlal Nehru, he was honoured as "Netaji"- a great leader of Nation after he took full control of "Azad-Hind Force".
Born in Cuttak, Orissa later shifted to Kolkata, Subash Bose had a brilliant academic
record. He stood second in Matriculate Examination of Calcutta University in 1911 and later on got admitted into Presidency College, Calcutta. But he shifted to Scotish
Church College on account of controversy about manhandling of an Engilish Professor
in Presidency College. He passed ist class B.A.(Hons) in Philosophy, later on moved
to England for appearing in Indian Civil Service Examination. He stood 4th in ICS
Examination in 1920 but did not accept this lucrative offer of British Government and
therefore, devoted himself fully in freedom struggle of India.
The great massacre of innocent people at Jalinwalabag, Punjab by British
Government in the year 1919 and the non co-operation movement called by Mahatma
Gandhi throughout India influenced him a lot. He went to Bombay and met Gandhiji
in 1921. He was sent to prison in1924 along with all revolutionary leaders by British
Government and became free in1924. Subhash Chandra Bose actively participated
in Youth organisation and Trade Union Movement. In 1929, he became President of
Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee. He participated "Salt Movement", called by
Mahatma Gandhi in 1930 and was sent to prison. He became Mayor of Calcutta and
President of All India Trade Union Congress(AITUC). He also became President of
All India Congress in 1938 but ultimately resigned from the post on account of
interference of Mahatma Gandhi in 1939. In 1941, he was kept house arrest by British Government in his residence, which is now called "Netaji Bhavan" in Calcutta. He
camouflaged all the sentries and left India in 1941. With the help of Japan Air Force
and with his own brigade called "Azand Hind Force", he conquered "Andaman and
Nicobar" island which was under British rule.
News of Subhash Chandra Bose's death remains mystery so far. This was announced in news papers that he died in plane crash at "Taihook Airport" in "Farmoja" on 18th August,1945. The news of his death in plane crash was investigated
several times. But no authenticated report has so far come out. Subhash Bose remains immortal
to us.
