The Adventures of a Sheltered Life

Book Review by: Shirley Roe

Original Author: Sonia Primm
Genre:          Autobiography/Memoir

Title:          The Adventures of a Sheltered Life
Author:         Sonia Lovell Primm
“One way to get the most out of life is to look upon it as an adventure.”
At an early age, Sonia Primm adopted a way of life that she now relates to this quote from ‘William Feather.’   In the author’s opinion, she has led a “sheltered life” but for many readers she has experienced and survived traumatic life events with spirit gained only by personal insight and faith.
Sonia was born in 1933 and quickly became ‘Daddy’s girl.’  Raised with 2 brothers in a close knit family oriented environment, she became her own person with a strong, devoted passion for family, education and music.  As a child she admits to being curious, impatient and impetuous but as maturity grows she learns to control her temperament.  In the end these qualities help her understand and guide her own 2 sons, Dennis and David, into adulthood.
Growing up during the attack on Pearl Harbor had an effect on all who remember the screeching air raid sirens.  In preparation for further attacks, these drills were frequent.  All lights were to be turned off and shades lowered.  Throughout this time there was a shortage of supplies leading to rationing laws, which were put in place.  Everything from clothes, gasoline and food products such as sugar, and coffee were rationed.  Stamp books were issued and you could not buy anymore of the product until your next book was issued.
Sonia tells us of the life long battle with being overweight.  She has always accepted challenges and invented some of her own, like swimming across Lake Kerr!  She married Tom in 1955, after many years of hard work they are now retired, spending vacations touring in their motor home.  Not only have they toured the U.S.A. but Costa Rica, Denmark and the British Isles as well.  Having gone through several surgeries due to her advancing arthritis and now dealing with fibromyalgia, nothing has deterred her from living her life.
Sonia shares with us her four aspects to having a joyful and satisfying life, which are actually quite simple.  “Faith in God, Close Loving Family, Good Friends and the Ability to have Fun.”
The author had accomplished her goal of writing her memoirs with attention to detail, which will appeal to many generations of family and friends.  Marketing will more than likely be limited to those readers who enjoy autobiographies of family life challenges.
Sonia Lovell Primm is a native of Ocala, Florida.  Born to parents who were both educators, she too spent 30 years teaching the youth of Florida.  Majoring in Elementary Education at Florida State University she also received her Bachelor of Science.
It is a good read. Reviewer:  Cheryl Ellis, Allbooks Review
