Naked Nation

Book Review   by:tejumade     Original Author: Victor Akinwande

There is a story told of an astronomer who was very learned in his subject. While he was studying the stars one night, he fell into a dry well behind his house. He shouted for help and people passing bye heard him and drew near to see who was shouting.

On being asked how he got into such a deep well, he explained what had happened. one of the people who listened asked why he did not study the earth and particularly the surrounding of his house before attempting to study the heavens.

Many paople are like this learned astronomer. We know a great deal about the history, happenings and events in other country of the other parts of the world, but very little about our own country. Sometimes we have been embarrassed outside our country by showing complete ingnorance of their own nation. Recently in Nigeria, some of the ambassadorial nominees that went for screening at the National assembly could not recite the Nationa Anthem of the nation they will be going to represent in other parts of the world.

The major challenge facing Nigeria at the moment is how to achieve a sustainable economic development.

Over the years, political issues have carried successive government away with little or no attention on the economy. Yet what should be the yardstick for measuring the performance of the government, would be whether the average Nigeria is richer or poorer.
