On Sunday last we performed a havan in our house. It is a religious act, done in order to bring in prosperity and happiness. The most amazing part of the ritual was the trendy going punditji, who was the busiest man, carrying some religious books in one hand and talking on the cellphone, giving lucky ones appointment for the next week while refusing others, was hurrying towards his next destination.

Yes, that’s punditji who chants mantras in Shudh Sanskrit and assures that the ritual, which he just performed will bring peace and happiness to all. He was welcomed by my wife and was shown the samgri she had brought.

After chanting some mantras and shlokas he dripped desi-ghee in the burning havan kund and called upon the gods for the well being of our family.

After the ritual he relished the ghee dripping food prepared by my wife and daughter. But to the dismay of the duo he only ate a few spoons of sweet kheer, some veggie and some channa-puri. It was due to paucity of time and he had to keep other appointments too he yelled.

He was given dakshina Rs 201/- by my wife and a warm send off. At this it was thought that the evil was warded off and so shall we live in prosperity and well being would prevail.
