This book reminds me of authors like one of my most favourite authors, Jacqueline Wilson; like Mel Sparke; like Judy Blume (also one of my favourite authors) and others. It is also a little bit like the author of the great Step Chain series, Ann Bryant.
To Matilda, also known as Mattie, getting a step dad is awful enough, but having a new step brother Rupert, a metal mouthed loser, is definitely worse. The thirteen year old creep is firm to mess up her (not so bad) reputation, split up her (almost happy) family and wreck the girl’s only chance of being popular and cool. There are some strong words in her but most are mild. The names are quite mean.
