When Jay Leno was a boy, everything his Italian father did was BIG! One summer his dad's big project was fixing the family car. The next summer, his father decided to host the biggest backyard barbecue ever. He dragged his son Jay to the warehouse-sized hardware store to purchase truckloads of materials to build his own rotisserie (which is a rotating meat pit). After tearing up the backyard, he invited his big Italian family over for an end of the summer roast beef feast. I won’t spoil the ending here, but you’ll never guess what happens when young Jay tries to sneak a taste of the meat before dinner is served.
As far as children’s books written by celebrities go, this book is a bit funnier than most. The cartoon illustrations and the antics of the loveable family dog add to the humor. You can hear the story in Leno’s own words on the CD, which is included with the book.
