I is for India is an alphabet book exploring the people, religions, customs, and cuisine of India through stunning full-color photographs and dazzling descriptions. One of my favorite photographs is "U is for umbrella", which shows a row of vibrantly painted umbrellas from the small village of Pipili in the author’s (Prodeepta Das) beloved homeland. Other images show intricate details, such as in “M is for mehndi, a tattoo-like decoration often worn by young women at weddings and festivals.”
Here are images shown for each letter:

About the Author:
Prodeepta Das is passionate about photography. He has photographed for over thirty books and magazines and has exhibited in galleries all over the world. Das grew up in Orissa, which is on the eastern side of India, and later graduated from Sussex and London universities. According to the author’s note in the beginning of book, the words and images were chosen “to inspire young people to go further and explore the color, excitement, and mystery of this great continent.”
