Listening for Lions

Book Review   by:bookaddict     Original Author: Gloria Whelan

My daughter and I read this book for our mother/daughter book club.
Rachel is a young girl who loves her parents and Africa. When tragedy strikes, she's thrust into a world of deception by adults who should be taking care of her, not using her. She is sent from her beloved home of Africa to London, where it actually snows. She finds unlikely friends who really care for her.

There is a lot of symbolism in the book through animals and especially birds.
I wonder if this story could have been two books. The ending seemed obvious and felt a little rushed.

Overall, this is a good story about a girl who overcomes tragedy and deception to triumph in the end.
