First Aid : Its Importance

Book Review by: dhawanbm

Original Author: Dhawanbm
First Aid is the aid given to the injured in case of an injury or accident or sudden illness which enables the trained persons
to render such skilled assistance as will preserve life, promote recovery or prevent aggravation of the injury or condition until the arrival of the proper medical attention by Doctor or during the transport.
Many a times it has been seen that in case of a serious accident on road people just gather around the victim and are just mute spectators. A person is bleeding profusely or has a broken bone, it is very sad to note that no one knows what to do. In cases of other medical emergencies like drowning in pond or in cases of dog bite or when a person is bitten by snake or some one has swallowed in a poisonous substance, it is very important that the precious life of an individual be saved or some kind of medical help be given which can prevent from serious damage or even loss of life.
It is not always possible to get the immediate help of a doctor in case of some accident or emergency and sometimes the injured person breathes his last before the arrival of the doctor. So it is very essential that someone around should be able to give immediate help. It is only possible if that one knows how first aid can be rendered in that particular case. In fact, we can have sufficient number of such people if first aid training is imparted to all students in schools and colleges. Rather first aid should be introduced as a compulsory subject at the high school level. Thus every boy and girl will come to learn how to handle and take care of an injured or sick person in case of an emergency. By doing so we can form an army of first-aiders who can come to help of an unfortunate victim instead of remaining a mere onlooker. More over there have been rampant incidents of natural disasters, like earthquakes or tsunamis which shatter the lives of millions. When such disasters strike no one is prepared to tackle such situations, here also learned students can be of tremendous help and can join hands with the authorities to become a big task force in mitigating the plight and miseries of affected people.
