“The Famous Five – Five Run Away Together” by Enid Blyton
George who believes Kirrin
Island belongs to her will always try to use an opportunity to go there. Her three
cousins love the place with its old ruined castle too, since they already visited it with her previously. This team of four cousins is actually called The Famous Five because of George’s dog Timothy who joins them in all their adventures. Due to Aunt’s Fanny sudden illness and hospitalization the
children are left with a new
cook Mrs. Stick. This lady who is very strict with them has an annoying son Edgar who calls George names. Julian the most mature of the cousins has his own ways to speak with this unpleasant cook. As situation becomes unbearable George thinks of a brilliant idea; to row over with her
boat to Kirrin Island, there the children could be on their own without grown-up interference. On the island the five are happy to find a cave that serves them as “home”. The quiet atmosphere is changed when the children find out that the whole Stick family is on the island too. But what are they doing there? Meanwhile Dick tries to scare them off with amplified echoing sounds. More questions are raised and being on this deserted island seeing some boat signaling causes the children to think of illegal issues such as sea smugglers. A surprise and excitement is to be followed for everyone. Thanks to Julian, Dick, George, Anne and Timothy a kidnapped little girl is being rescued.
