“Naná discovers the sky” is one of the books from the collection “Literary History for Children”, written by José Roberto Torero and Marcus Aurélius Pimenta. Composed by five books starred by Neno, Nina, Nonô and Nuno, the collection presents relevant themes of Brazilian history utilizing children of different eras but with the same desires of current infant readers.
The Naná&
acute;s history starts in the South of Brazil, where the authors were walking near to a church ruins and looked at an old clay
wall with almost two meters height by four meters length. Soon they transformed it into the goal and started to practice alternative shoots until throw it to the ground by a strong shoot. When the dust decreases they discover a bag filled up of papers into the dismantled wall, in those papers was written the Naná´s history, a Guarani child Indian that lived in the century XVII.
The central theme of the book is the cultural crash between white men and the Indians of the region. With the arrive of father Inácio, Jesuit responsible to convert Indians into christianism, the couple of child Indians, Naná and Tatá are separated. Father Inácio imposes your belief and denies the Indians
beliefs. This attitude provokes a revolution and divides the Indian settlement by wall of the beginning of the history. Naná remains at one side
defending the beliefs from her people while Tatá stays to another side defending the Jesuit because he believes that he had listened Jesus voice. In fact what happened was one of Naná´s jokes. After that the two sides joint again to defend the Indians that are been hunted for serve as slaves in the new Portuguese colony. Naná and Tatá make over again their old friendship and prepare a decisive trap to liberate their people.
The great quality of the text combined with impeccable graphic production as well as the beautiful illustrations of Roger Mello catch the interest of the children besides of adults like me, for instance, that love well narrated and comical histories.
