Gulliver''s travels is a classic adventure that is an all time favourite with both children and adults. The book is about
the four extraoridnary voyages of Lamuel Gulliver - a ship surgeon by profession.
The first voyage is to Lilliput. A shipwreck takes Gulliver to Lilliput, the land of the small. The citizens of Lilliput find him washed ashore, they undertake the mammoth task of transpoting him to their city. They have come to believe that Gulliver is a giant and they hold him in fearful respect. Gulliver gives us a funny description of his experiences in the land of Lilliput. For instance when the queen''s apartment catches fire, Gulliver extinguishes it by peeing.......
The second voyage is to Brobdingnag, the land of the giants. In this strange land Gulliver is captured by a farmer who intends to become rich by displaying the tiny Gulliver across the land.Gulliver narrates his experiences in the royal palace where he is patronised by the queen.In the land of the giants, Gulliver has some nightmarish experiences, like the one where he is carried away by a giant monkey on to a tree top. He is finally rescued by the soldiers.
The third voyage is to Laputa where the inhabitants are so occupied with useless scientific pursuits that they need to be hit on the head with sticks to remind them to talk. Gulliver renders a captivating story of the upteen worthless research that the Laputants are engaged in. The pursuits are as crazy as trying to recyle human waste into food.....In this journey he also visits Glubbdubdrib, the island of ghosts and magicians. Here, he talks to the ghosts of historic characters like Alexander.
The fourth and the final voyage is to Houyhnhnm where the horses rule over humans. Gulliver is humbled by the integrity and the intellect of the horses in comparison to the treacherous humans. He stays with the family of a horse and learns their language. Gulliver goes into great details to explain why the animals are so superior to humans who use their intellect to cause more harm than good.
