You might be thinking from the name of the author, that I am making it up. I mean Miss Read – that is a coincidence, or is
it. Her real name was not actually Miss Read: it was Mrs Dora Saint! She wrote books about her childhood and this was the final book. This book is about her magical world, when she was seven
years old, in a small
village, far way from the bustle of London, called Chelsfield, Kent. It is mainly about one of her happiest periods in her life: her school days in a village school for three years 1921 to 1924. I would rate this book 6/ 10 and would recommend it to children, particularly aged between 7 and 11, who like olden day stories from the early 1900’s.
