What does a fourteen-year-old boy who can influence fate, a thirteen-year-old girl who can freeze things, a smallish, elfed
eared creature who can disappear and a great warrior who turns into a
toothpick all have in common? Leven, Winter, Clover and Geth are all trying to find the
gateway to Foo, where dreams are produced, but is on the verge of being destroyed by Sabine, a dark, evil spirit who wants to control both dreamland and reality.
In Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo, Leven was chosen to find the gateway and destroy it before Sabine finds out. If he succeeds, Foo will forever remain a place of dreams, but if not, then Sabine will travel through the gateway into reality and take over. In the book, the hero, Leven Thumps, who has been abused by his guardians, his aunt and uncle, find that fate is desperately trying to intervene, in order for him to discover a gateway that his great uncle created between dreams and reality. Not just a fantasy mingled with adventure, but Leven Thumps is truly a masterpiece of Author Obert Skye's incredible imagination. From whining chewing gum to a man-made dirt monster spewing mud and flinging dirt everywhere, this book takes you through many journeys along the way that have you either gritting your teeth or laughing your head off.
The toothpick, otherwise known as Geth, was a great warrior in the land of Foo; however, because he had to find Leven, he transferred himself into a seed that an old man planted years ago. That seed grew into a great tree and waited for the right time for Leven to be of age and to allow fate to lead him back to the gateway, where he could destroy the entrance into Foo. This is where it gets good. The tree hoists itself up from the ground and attacks Leven's aunt and uncle so the uncle will cut him down. The reason behind the slaughter is so that Geth can somehow find Leven after he runs away. After much cutting and sawing, not too mention pain and anguish poor Geth goes through, he meanders his way, as best as he can, towards Leven, fate willing. When Geth finally catches up to him, Leven thinks he's gone crazy when he sees the toothpick moving! Geth, in a vast attempt to get Leven's attention, begins to throw himself to and fro, creating eyes, ears and one leg. Now, a walking, talking toothpick has to somehow convice Leven of his mission. The problem is when Leven sleeps, Sabine's dark shadows invade his mind, making him believe his mission is fruitless and moot. If it wasn't for Winter, who lived in Foo long ago and can freeze anything she wants by just thinking about it, Leven would have given up for good!
Being the only human's along their journey, both Leven and Winter have to work together to tempt and influence fate to lead them where they need to go, when they need to be there.
After traveling on a ice path across the ocean that Winter created, an 18 inch Clover driving a car by pushing on the gas peddle and a wicked train ride, they all somehow end up in Germany where when the right temperature of the ocean and the sunset arrives and the world is happy. Only then will the gateway suddenly appear. Still, Sabine has found another way through the gateway and is there to greet them when the time comes. It's now a matter of time, wit and most of all de
