Very many small children are married at an early age. Perhaps
child marriage is social evil which is still practiced in many parts of India. It plays heavily with the lives of young
innocent girls who haven’t yet understood the true meaning of life. Usually this is prevalent among the
families or social segments which are superstitious, ignorant and narrow minded. It is needless to say that these people are too illiterate to understand the crime they are committing.
Some perform child marriages due to utter poverty and where there are too many mouths to feed. The families are large and they are always hand to mouth. It is a stark reality that they have sometimes nothing to eat to survive. Hence comes the need to sell one of the children in the name of marriage to someone unknown, much elder in
age and belonging to some
unknown place far away.
At this juncture when children are made to enter the wedlock, they are hardly mature enough to accept the change. A big social and communal change. A giant leap into adulthood from the tender age of playing and studying to satisfying the needs of a full grown adult man is beyond ones imagination. But it is too late to realize all this that has happened and by the time a child understands she has already become a woman.
Thus she either becomes an undernourished mother and continuously suffers at the hands of a male dominated society or is again put to the tormentous task of re-establishing her house-hold again as she is sold again and again to some one unknown and much older in age. This never ending cycle is a very harrowing experience for an innocent young child which she once was.
