Be it a party or an outing or a social gathering, it has become a trend now a days to serve soft drinks to the invitees and guests. Not only this ‘Soft drinks’ have even replaced milk consumption in the diets of many children as well as adults. There has been an incredible increase in the purchases of carbonated soda throughout the world today which may lead to dire consequences as far as health is concerned!
 Perhaps cold drinks have become extremely popular among the young people. Many can be seen drinking coca-cola even in the chilly cold wintery weather. Most of the business of almost all the restaurants and hotels heavily depends on the sales of cold drinks. But interestingly the consumers hardly think whether the fashionable drinks are good for their health or not!
 Lab tests reports show that cold drinks could cause physical and mental disorders. Cold drinks manufacturing companies though do not mix strong pesticides; they mix some chemicals like phosphoric and citric acid, which are harmful to human health.
 Many Cold drinks like coca cola, 7 up, Mirinda, Pepsi and Fanta are being widely sold in all parts of the world and have a big market, are proven not safe to Drink and are unfit for human consumption. These cold drinks are laced with pesticides. Some other chemicals mixed in cold drinks can also be the cause of several ailments beyond one''s imagination.
 If we look at the ill effects of Cold Drinks consumption, one would never consume them for various reasons. Lets see how:-
 
1.    In take of Soft drinks, lead to lowering of calcium levels and higher the phosphate levels in the blood. When phosphate levels are high and calcium levels are low then calcium is pulled out of the bones. The phosphate content of soft drinks like Coca -Cola and Pepsi is very high, and they contain virtually no calcium. Thus Soft drink consumption has been found to be the major factor for osteoporosis.
 
2.    Heavy users of soft drinks not only lead to osteoporosis but their could be damaged arteries as well.
 
3.    Tooth enamel is easily dissolved due to high content of sugar and acid in soft drinks.
 
4.    Soft drink consumption in children poses a significant risk factor for impaired calcification of growing bones. This situation ultimately leads to poor bone mineralization in children  which may lead to a greater risk of broken bones.
 
5.    The relationship between soft drink consumption and body weight is so strong that researchers calculate that for each additional soda consumed, the risk of obesity increases 1.6 times.
 
6.    Adolescents who consume soft drinks display a risk of bone fractures three to four times higher than those who do not.
 
7.    The acidity of cola beverages is about the same as vinegar. The sugar content masks the acidity and little do we realize they we are drinking this strange mixture of phosphoric
acid, sugar, caffeine, coloring, and flavoring matter.
 8.    Cold drinks are not only dangerous to kids teeth but also its regular consumption may lead  to disorder of digestion system.
 
9.    It can also cause cancer in urinary trek and brain damage.
 
10. Another advantage of avoiding sodas is that you will avoid the caffeine that is in many of them. Caffeine is a weak diuretic that causes calcium loss via the kidneys.
 
11. Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is used extensively in soft drink packaging. These  PET bottles can release small amounts of dimethyl terephthalate into foods and beverages which are believe to be carcinogenic.
 
12. Anyone over the age of 40 years, soft drinks can be especially hazardous because the kidneys are less able to excrete excess phosphorus there by causing depletion of vital calcium which is essential for our body.
 
 13. Heavy soft drink consumption can interfere with your body''s metabolization of iron and diminish nerve impulse transmission too.
 
14. Soft drinks can interact adversely with antacids and possibly cause constipation, hypertension, nausea, vomiting, headaches, and kidney damage.
 
15. Soft drinks can decrease the antibacterial action of penicillin and ampicillin.
 
16. Diet sodas that are low in calories are high in sodium. Too much salt in our diet may lead to more calcium excretion in the urine and increase the risk of osteoporosis.
 
17. There could be problems like tooth loss, periodontal disease, and gingivitis especially with a high phosphorus intake, particularly from soft drinks.
 
18.  Prolonged calcium deficiency can cause a decrease in bone mass. Rickets in children, osteomalacia (decreased bone calcium) in adults, and Osteoporosis (porous and fragile bones) can occur when calcium is withdrawn from bones faster than it is deposited.
 
 
It is a pity that when so much is known about cold drinks, yet we find  cine stars like Amir Khan, Priti Jinta, Hriktik Roshan and others coming out openly for its propaganda and it is a fact that these money minded cine stars do not hesitate saying even poison is safe to drink.


 
Swami Ramdev''s vociferous allegation was right. Swami Ramdev had declared that CocaCola and Pepsi can be used best as toilet cleaners. Now it is for the consumers to decide to drink or not to drink this poison being sold openly by multinationals.
