“The Famous Five – Five Go Down to the Sea”
by Enid Blyton
The Famous five, who are four cousins and a dog are
really not seeking any adventure this holiday. Starting on their bike ride to the train station, they are all heading toward Tremannon Farm. The area is recommended as a quiet one since it is right near the coast. Mrs. Penruthlan is a superb cook who likes to prepare lots of tasty food especially for her young guests. She is excited to tell the children about the “Barnies “ performance that will take place in a few days. Mrs. Penruthlan remembers “Clopper” the horse show always as the best part and most attracting too, since it cheers everyone with non-stop laughs. Julian, Dick, Anne, George and the dog Timmy meet a local boy, called Yan, who lives with his old great-grandad, the shepherd. Yan was following The Five everywhere they went his behaviour annoyed them a bit at first. He invites them over to his great-grandad hut, where the old man had strange unbelievable stories. The Wreckers’ Way tale was very interesting to the boys who therefore wanted to explore the ruined tower that could serve as a “false” lighthouse. The children have some suspicious feeling something is going on especially on dark cloudy and rainy nights. The story continues with some surprises happening along. Without exposing more secrets, it is recommended that the reader will be introduced to Enid Blyton wonderful ideas and fantastic imagination through the book itself, which is number twelfth of this serie.
