Prey outwits predator in this rustic fable. Sly Fox, hungry for chicken soup, captures Red Hen in a bag and carries her toward
his den. But Red Hen is a clever thing, and when the fox stops to doze, she escapes. Red Hen places heavy rocks in the bag and escapes; and Sly Fox discovers her handiwork only when the boulder splashes into his kettle of boiling water. Red Hen is a chubby thing and slender Sly Fox can't be blamed for working up a craving for her. The illustrations are delightfully lovely. The text style and size are perfect for the aimed age group which is 4 – 8. I think the age group should have been 2 – 6 because it is a little bit babyish.
