Jay Leno - If Roast Beef Could Fly

Book Review by: MichelleB

Original Author: Jay Leno
When Jay Leno was a lad, everything his Italian father did was BIG! Last summer’s big Family Project was fixing the car.
This summer, his Dad decides to host the biggest backyard barbecue ever. Unfortunately Dad moves on to the new project before he finishes the old one. He drags his son Jay miles away from home to the mega hardware store to purchase truckloads of materials to build his own rotisserie (which is a rotating meat pit). After tearing up the backyard, he invites his big Italian family over for an end of the summer roast beef feast. I won’t spoil the ending here, but you’ll never guess what happens when young Jay tries to sneak a taste before dinner is served.
As far as children’s books written by celebrities go (and there are a ton of them! see my reviews on books by Katie Couric and Brooke Shields), this book is a bit funnier than most. The cartoon-ish illustrations and the antics of the loveable family dog add to the humor. You can hear the story in Leno’s own words on the CD which is included with the book.
