Jamie Lee Curtis explores the world through the eyes of a four-year old girl. Repeating the title phrase, “When I was little,”
she celebrates important rites of passage: going from being a handful to being helpful, from silly hair to ponytails, and from having just two teeth to a mouthful. For example, “When I was little, I didn’t understand time-outs. Now I do, but I don’t like them.” Not a bad start for Curtis and illustrator Laura Cornell, who eventually team up to write over a half a dozen bestselling books together. There are a multitude of children’s books written by celebrity authors, ranging in quality from wonderful to what-were-they-thinking (see my reviews on celebrity books by Katie Couric, Will Smith, Jay Leno, George Foreman, et al). Curtis’ humorous, child-friendly style has propelled her to the forefront of this genre.
