The Road to Mumbai is filled with many twists and turns, not to mention a few uninvited guests! Shoba and her friend, Fuzzy
Patel, are on their way to his cousin’s wedding.
“It’s top-secret!” Fuzzy insists.
“No riff-raff allowed!” Unfortunately they get lost during their trip through the desert. Each time they meet a stranger – a curious camel, a boy selling coconut juice, a line of elephants, a snake charmer – Fuzzy downplays the wedding so that no one else will want to come along.
“It will be the most boring wedding in the history of the universe,” he would insist.
“A Map of India” found in the back of book traces the two lost friend’s round-about route to Mumbai. When Shoba and Fuzzy finally reach the wedding tent, guess who has secretly tagged along? This book was a huge hit when I read it aloud to a group of kids. They loved pointing out the other animals that kept following Shoba and Fuzzy. The back of the book has useful
information for the reader, such as:
“A World About Mumbai” the author tells about some of the languages spoken there.
“An Illustrated Glossary” explains a few unfamiliar terms, like “jelabees” and “rickshaws.”
