Something wants to be noticed: it’s not here kill or seriously injure people – Jiggy McCue in particular, but just scare
or slightly hurt them as if they want people to become aware of it. The Three Musketeers (Jiggy, Angie and Pete) are sure it is a ghost, not just any ghost but a poltergeist – a mischievous ghost who wreaks havoc, in the shape of a bird: the
poltergoose!
My favourite character is Aunt Hetty, the goose, because she is haunting Jiggy McCue and it is funny what she gets up to: knocking paintings of walls, slamming pillows into collections of rocking horses, creating shadows against walls,
preserving the only plant, that Jiggy’s dad grew, which lived past a few hours.
I love the scene at school where Milo answers back to his father who is their form-tutor – this part is hilarious; the whole book is hilarious.
I would recommend this book for ages 9 to 12.
