David McPhail''s imagination knows no bounds as he presents his piggy tale with colorful drawings and delightful light
poetry meant to be appreciated not only by preschoolers and
beginner readers but parents as well.
He starts by recounting how he was distracted from his reading by faint sounds of feeding. The author-illustrator follows the noise and is surprised to find pigs of different colors and sizes enjoying themselves immensely in his house. He proceeds to humorously describe every type of pig one can see and marvel: pigs in tutus and stilts, pigs from England and France, coming in by boat and even plane. As the evening draws on, the pigs get more messy and rowdy until the author finally calls it a night because he did not get his share of pizza... just the total bill.
The author hilariously allows the "piggies" to stay only if they clean up their mess - a funny conclusion to such an enjoyable story that also leaves a little lesson to "kiddies" who can''t control their mess. McPhail is a great dreamer and his love for children is very evident in this short but very creative book.
