The Classic 'Emma' was written by an English woman called Jane Austen, who was born in Hampshire in 1775. The young Jane was educated at a ladies boarding school in Berkshire in 1785 to 1786. In 1789 the young teen began her writing; little did this young Jane know that one day the novels she would write in her short life would one day be taught at universities throughout the world. Between 1811 and 1818 she published 6 novels including 'Emma' which was published in 1815, many of her novels where published anonymously because of the way female authors where thought of at that time. Jane began to suffer from ill-health in 1816 her condition worsened and in 1817 she died and was buried in Winchester Cathedral. 'Emma' is a the humorous story of a rich single twenty one year old English woman called Emma Woodhouse, who lives with her aging father and sees herself as a bit of a matchmaker. The story take us on a comical journey of Emma's antics and actions as she tries to find a husband for her newest acquired friend Harriet Smith, whom she take under her wing. In reality Emma has no real matchmaking skills and misinterprets all the words and actions of the gentlemen that she tries to match Harriet with. Then there is Mr. Knightly whose brother is married to Emma's sister, she considers him to be a friend that is until other female characters begin to show interest and she realizes her feelings for him are more than friendship and then she goes into panic mode, for fear she might lose the man she loves. This is a romantic comedy about a matchmaker that without meaning to messes up the love life of those around her, can it all be fixed and will she get her man? The best way to find out is to read the book!!!!
