Original Author: Ernest Hemingway
This abstract was translated from Der alte Mann und das Meer
The book "The old man and the sea" from Ernest Hemingway is about an
old cuban fisherman Santiago who has been travelling
with his boat at
the sea for 84 days without fishing a single fish. In the first 40 days
the boy Manolin goes with him but later his parents doesn´t allow him
to go with Santiago. At the 85th day the old man paddles alone at sea.
More out than the other fishermen. He fishs a big fish that pulls him
out to the sea. The old man has to keep an eye that the line doesn''t
break because the fish is so powerful. The old man is sorry about the
big fish but he is positive to kill it. At the 3rd day the fish begins
to circling around the boat. Santiago catches the fish but the blood
attracts sharks. The old man is able to avert all the sharks but at the
end, when he comes home, there is only the rackabones of the big fish
left over. At home the old man goes to bed. Next morning the boy
Manolin knocks him up and he promises Santiago that he is going to go
fishing with him again.
