Iliad is a very interesting
story .It depicts life, not only of the Greeks in that time but also it relates to every people’s life--- their struggles and triumphs and their loss. Some of the story is still visible this time. Achilles is one example. Being the greatest Achaean
warrior many had put there hope in him. Yet, many were discouraged when he turned his back and decided not to fight in war. He was carried by his emotions. He was not a
real warrior, A warrior in the true sense of the word is not concern of himself but his primary concern is the welfare of his people. Homer was successful in showing the readers what does a real
hero means. Normally, the main character is the hero of the story or the savior, but here in Iliad, Homer shows us that it not necessarily the lead character in the
end who will emerge as the hero. The story shifted from Achilles, to others who fought bravely than Achilles. One is Patroclus. He showed his boldness when he borrowed Achilles’ armor in order to drive the Trojans away . Even if he knows that he is not able to defeat the Trojan warriors, he still did what he can even if it means his own
life .Hector also is a true hero. He fought despite of his wife wife’s plea. He did not allow his emotion to rule over him even if he saw Andromache crying. Now,there are
people who claimed they are heroes who are allowing their emotions to over take them. In the end, these people will be the losers because they did not do what they should do. There’s a saying that quitters never wins and winners never quit. Revenge will do us no good. It should not be our motivator. Patroclus and Hector stood up as real heroes. We should also stood up in our own endeavors in life.
