The hand that rocks the cradle….
The poem endears to all of us for the popularity it gained in the past. However “The
hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world” fails to follow today’s standards, and particularly when it comes to single
mothers, this could not be true because single mothers have a lot other stuff to go around with. Why mention single mothers? Even talk about modern women of this century, who are performing all the responsibilities from child rearing till child ‘breaking’. Oops… Yes! I mean it. Today, the place of angels has been replaced by anti-depressive medicines, tranquilizers and drugs. Now drugs are there to safeguard our women against the evils of society, but anti-depressants have not been able to protect their children from being intoxicated.
The cradle is now rocked by nannies, many of which are not even reliable enough to be appointed to get along with the children but who cares! If Ross Wallace had even thought of such a society, he would never have mentioned such ‘hand’. You might be thinking that Ross’s poem is not for this
generation. Wrong! Ross’s poem is for every generation; the fact is that it is ‘us’ who don’t deserve the cradle now, for this is the reason why our younger generation is getting spoiled day by day. The hand is changed, so is the cradle replaced!
