This book is a ‘Ladybird Well Loved Tale’ book, which is a series of books; the collection includes ‘Little Red Ridng Hood’, ‘The Princess and the Frog’ and ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’. Obviously, this book is in it too. It is quite well known and loved but still it is a bit of a scary story. Here is a brief description of it.

Characters
The main characters are a soldier, an ugly old witch, the dog who guarded the copper, the dog who guarded the silver, the dog who guarded the gold and the princess.

Plot
The story is set on a road; this is where a soldier meets the old ugly witch and goes into the tree. Inside the tree, there are three doors. In the first room, there was a dog who guarded the copper; it the second room, there was a dog who guarded the silver and in the third room there was a dog who guarded the gold! What will he do with all these riches?

Illustrations
The Illustrations are bright, colourful and very detailed. They help tell the story because the descriptions of the dogs aren’t very good.

Rating and recommendation
I would rate this book 9/ 10 and would recommend it to all children who like happy stories!
