A man sells his wife and child at a fair after having one too many drinks. He is devastated when he realises what he has
done. However, it is too late as the wheel of fate has already been set in motion. 18 years later, his wife and daughter return to find him a wealthy corn grower and mayor of a small town called
Casterbridge. On the same day of their return, a Scotsman - Donald
Farfrae - arrives in the town. Farfrae soon becomes embroiled in the tangled lives of these tortured 3. His fate is sadly sewn up when the mayor befriends him.
Thomas Hardy writes a dramatic soap opera in the backward times of corn growers and bonnets. The tale is tragic but you kinda end up hoping certain characters would die so the right people can finally be together. The book was not as tiresome as I thought it would be. I really enjoyed it. I found it on my friend's bookshelf and it has been entertaining me these past 2 days.
