The Sisters Grimm: The Fairy-Tale Detectives

Academic Paper Review   by:ReaditDiva     Original Author: Michael Buckley
ª

If you thought the old witch in Hansel and Gretel was trouble, wait until you meet Mrs. Grimm! After their parents mysteriously disappear, Sabrina and and her younger sister, Daphne, are shipped around to various foster homes. The girls finally end up with Mrs. Grimm, who claims not only to be their long lost grandmother, but a fairy-tale detective who investigates magical mayhem in the strange town of Ferryport Landing, New York.

Anyone who stays in the home of Mrs. Grimm must follow two simple rules:
First, never let anyone or anything into the house without asking her first.
Second, stay away from the locked room down the hall.
But Sabrina never does what she’s supposed to do, and she and Daphne find out the hard way what happens to girls who are too curious.

This is the first of an adventure series filled with references to the classic fairy tale characters created by the Brothers Grimm. Prince Charming is the handsome but surprisingly devious mayor. The sheriff and his deputies are the three little pigs who have arrested Jack “the giant killer” Beanstalk for petty crimes. Throw in the magic mirror from Snow White, the Big Bad Wolf, and an anxious white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland and you’ve got a fascinating tale that hooks the reader from the first page.

Book One: The Fairy Tale Detectives
Book Two: The Unusual Suspects
Book Three: The Problem Child
Book Four: Once Upon a Crime
Book Five: Magic and Other Misdemeanors
Book Six: Tales From the Hood
Book Seven: The Everafter War

For more twisted fairytales, read Cinderella: An Art Deco Love Story or Lon Po Po: A Red Riding Hood Tale from China (click on links below).
