Brideshead Revisited

Book Review by: jake mills

Original Author: Evelyn Waugh
Evelyn Waugh's eighth novel, which undoubtedly launched him into history as one
of British literature's strongest authors, Brideshead Revisited speaks for itself in terms of style, originality, and power. The story revolves around one Charles Ryder, a middle class youth, who happens upon a somewhat disastrous family, divided not only by ideals, but by religion as well. Charles follows this family through their twists and turns of fate, and helps them more than they realize, all the while becoming more and more dependent upon the family he seems to be a part of. With a large and colorful cast to call upon for stunning performances, Waugh weaves an entertaining story, while forcing the reader to confront their own ideas about religion, love, family, and friendship. In the end, Brideshead Revisited Shines forth as a great example of the people of the time, and the problems they faced, all written masterfully, and with such humor, that the reader cant help but have fun.
