It's not often you find a book you can
read again, and again, and still laugh but this is exactly what I found when I picked up Mr Commitment by Mike Gayle.
Duffy is our hero - a completely normal guy, just cruising along, enjoying his comedy, hating his day job, and loving his
relationship with Mel and spending
time with his flatmate Dan.
The novel is a romantic
comedy that follows the relationship of Duffy and Mel through several break-ups, fights in IKEA over flat-pack furniture and many happy times in between. Although the plot is serious, Mike Gayle has a style of writing that makes the story appear light-hearted and the jokes keep you smiling throughout, and nodding in recognition as a character acts how you or one of your friends would.
It is a time for change and growing up for Duffy, and he finds himself having to make some very serious
decisions about the
type of
person he has been, and the type of person he wants to become. After he's done making all these decisions, he then has to convince Mel, who is out to protect her own heart.
Fantastically funny, and wonderfully realistic, this is a great book and well worth a read.
