The gripping
science fiction adventure,
The Time Machine by H. G. Wells, is captured in a visually stimulating graphic
novel format. The slightly oversized panels and easy-to-read text are designed with young readers in mind, but adults (comic book fans in particular) will no doubt find this book appealing.
In this rendition, The Time Traveler invites his fellow scientists to his workshop to reveal his latest invention: a machine that can transport a person into the future!
“Ridiculous!” the other scientists scoff.
“We can only move through space, my scientific friend. We cannot move through time.”
But The Time Traveler proves them all wrong, using his machine to hurtle himself 800 centuries into the future. The future world is very different from the London, England of 1895 that he left behind. The Time Traveler rescues a young girl named Weena, one of the peaceful natives called the Eloi. But he also discovers man-eating creatures called the Morlocks…and ends up in a fight for his life!
This book is part of a series by Stone Arch Books that takes classic novels and puts them in
graphic novel format to appeal to a young, modern audience (see list below). According to the book publishers, all of their Classic Fiction Graphic Novels are "safe, containing no violence and no inappropriate subjects". With Discussion Questions, Writing Prompts, and a Glossary, they make good teaching tools for reluctant readers who are less likely to read the classics in their original length.
