Nisteachi coddi ( fish
curry - Goan style):
Ingrediants:
Pomfret (cut into 2 1/2 cm) - 1 kg
coconut (grated) - 3/4 cup
cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
coriander seeds - 1 tablespoon
vegetable oil - 4 tablespoons
whole dry red
chillies - 5
(kashmiri)
onions (grated) - 2 medium
tomatoes (blanched and chopped) - 2 medium
salt - for taste
green chillies (slit) - 4
tamarind (soaked in hot water for 15 mins and pulp extracted) - 15 gms
curry leaves - 1 sprig
turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
Method:
1. Grind together red chillies, coconut, coriander and cumin seeds together into a paste, adding a little water.
2. Heat oil in a pan and fry onion
till golden brown.
add coconut paste and turmeric powder. Fry till oil shows separately.
3. Add curry leaves,
tomatoes and 1/4
cup water. cook till tomatoes are pulpy. Add green chillies, tamarind pulp, salt and 1 cup water.
4. Bring to boil and add fish. stir carefully. Cook for 5 mins with lid closed. serve hot with steamed rice.
