This is an excellent cookbook, both for those observing KASHRUT (ancient Jewish dietary laws), and for those curious about
Jewish dining customs, both in Israel and abroad, as well as for those looking
for some excellent recipes, both exotic and not.
There are discussions of such subjects as SABBATH meals, HOLIDAYS, appropriate foods adn celebrations, from WEDDINGS to FUNERALS. There aree many recipes included in this book; many are variants ( or lighter versions) of traditional favorites, as well as new dishes, very different from what is usually (and stereotypically) thought of as "Jewish cuisine." There are a number of substitutions of kosher for non-kosher foods in some other traditionally non-Jewish recipes. There is a chapter specifically on vegetarian dishes, as avoiding meat altogether is often the quickest path to proper observance of the
dietary laws (although perhaps not the easiest, at first).
