Dennis Lehane is known for the quality of his work and Gone Baby Gone exemplifies this. A simple search for a missing child takes you deep into the world of drugs and crime in Boston, USA. The characters are so real you can love or hate them in a single paragraph. They are people we all know next door and down the street. Investigators who are the traditional swashbucklers. Don't care for the rules and giving anything, including their lives, for the innocent. Every decision they make is made on the edge of the precipice of success or failure, life or death. You know they'll win but its so interesting when they do it. The criminals are the shadows of men. Immature, violent and cruel, they carve their way into big money. The investigators know them well and plan their downfall on the sidewalk or on the way home. A must read for the detective story lover.
